About Robbie

A career built on discipline, precision, and a deep understanding of what it takes to perform.

I’ve spent more than twenty years in rowing, starting as a school athlete and progressing through every level of the sport — club, age group, elite, and masters. That journey has shaped how I coach and how I help rowers get the best out of themselves.

I’m a three-time Olympian and the current world record holder in the men’s single scull. Across 15 years of elite rowing I raced at nine Senior World Championships, won eight World Cup gold medals, reached the Olympic final, and collected medals at the highest level of the sport. I’ve also raced at events like Henley Royal Regatta and the Head of the Charles, as well as representing clubs and crews across New Zealand and around the world.

This experience gives me a clear sense of what good training looks like, how to execute it day to day, and what it takes to stay consistent over the long term.

Over more than two decades in the sport, I’ve had the opportunity to race at the highest level while staying connected to rowing at every stage — from school and club events through to the Olympic Games.

Coaching Philosophy

Rowing rewards consistency and execution.

Training needs to be structured, repeatable, and aligned with a clear purpose. Technique adds speed, but it’s built over time through disciplined training and an understanding of how the boat and body should move together.

My role is to give you the framework, clarity, and support to train with intent. Your role is to show up, follow the plan, and communicate honestly. When those two pieces align, results follow.

How I Coach

All coaching is delivered online through my training app and supported by a members-only website containing technique resources, performance fundamentals, and structured training options. Depending on your coaching tier, you’ll receive personalised programming, technique reviews, check-ins, structured communication, or full 1-1 support.

Whether you’re preparing for a major event, starting a new season, or simply wanting to train with more confidence, my goal is to help you row well, row strong, and stay consistent for the long term.
